Speaker for March 2006: Dr. Ariel Roth. The title of his talk will be: "The Scientific Evidence for the Genesis Flood."

Synopsis: "Geology and paleontology provide compelling evidence that the worldwide flood described in Genesis was a real event. While traditional scientific interpretations avoid that conclusion, there is significant scientific evidence that is hard to explain unless you believe in that horrendous event." Dr. Roth holds a B.A degree in biology from Pacific Union College, a Master's degree in biology, and a Ph.D. degree in zoology from the University of Michigan. He has taken additional training in geology, mathematics and radiation biology at the University of California. He is the author of Origins: Linking Science and Scripture. He is currently writing another book on the topic: Is Science Discovering God?

Dr. Kevin Anderson discussed the subject of "Human, Not Animal." He started by quoting Richard Dawson's opening statement in his book, The Blind Watchmaker, "We animals ..." He told of the "tree of life" used by evolutionists that gave a picture of the "common descent" of all animals and plants, with humans at the top of the tree. Dr. Anderson spoke about the fossil human called Australopithicus known as "Lucy" and how the knee joint (found some distance away from the rest of the skeleton) was human since it was from a creature that walked upright, but that some parts of the rest of the skeleton many have had an animal origin. Also, the pelvis bone seemed to indicate bipedalism, but only after parts of the "bone" were physically ground down by scientists.

Dr. Anderson emphasized that in this lecture he would not tell much about fossils but was going to cover some things that we may not be familiar with, namely, how the research into the human genome fits

well with a creation model and offers a proper understanding of "mitochondrial Eve." Humans have many unique physical and mental capabilities that are not duplicated in the animal world.

Recently Inaugurated Meeting Extra!!

At our monthly meetings in January and February, a new feature was added: Videos at Six. In January, we showed "Is Genesis Relevant?" It was the first in a 12-part series of videos, but we will not show them in sequence. Watch for more videos on this subject featuring Ken Ham.

"Unlocking the Mystery of Life" was the subject of the February meeting extra. It told the story of contemporary scientists who are advancing the theory of intelligent design. In the video, observers are transported into the interior of a living cell to explore systems and machines that bear the unmistakable hallmarks of design, such as rotary motors that spin at 100,000 rpm, a biological information processing system more powerful than any computer network, and a thread-like molecule that stores instructions to build the essential components of every living organism on earth.

Cambodian Stegosaurus

The Vice President of the South Bay Creation Science Association, Garth Guessman, has been in contact with Dr. Dennis Swift and Dr. Donald Patton, who have documented a stegosaur-like carving on an 800-year-old Buddhist temple in Cambodia. He has received the following email from Dr. Patton telling of the "hits" (contacts) to the web site on which pictures of the carving are displayed:

We are paying for half a gig of band width which has been carrying almost 5 million hits per month. Since we put up the Cambodian information the traffic has increased incredibly. The web master called me last night in a panic. "We are exceeding our band width allotment by a factor of 12. Instead of half a gig we are running at six. If that continues, we will have 60 million hits a month. We have to do something about this."

I'm not sure how this rate stacks up against other sites but I did read that Apple's web site is number 10 on the most popular web site list and they are getting 10 million hits per month.

Lowering the resolution of our pictures would lower the band width but it's working like it is. I told the webmaster not to touch it. This is a marvelous problem. This is exactly what we want. We are preaching to the world. If it continues, we will worry about how to pay for it later. Obviously this is an issue that resonates.

A somewhat brief description of the pterosaur was given in the February issue of Creation in the Crossfire to acquaint readers with the animal that Garth Guessman journeyed to Papua New Guinea (PNG) to see. As our speaker in February, Garth told the audience about his interview with a man who has actually seen a living pterosaur, Duane Hodgkinson.

In 1944, at the age of 19, Hodgkinson was a soldier stationed in Finschhafen, Papua New Guinea. In August of that year he got permission along with a fellow soldier and a guide to hike to the villages in the jungle to see the people and learn of their culture. On a perfectly sunny day, the three walked into the mountainous jungle and eventually came upon a clearing. Suddenly a wild boar came crashing through the jungle into the clearing. The three men then saw a giant flying creature ascending not too far from the boar. The down draft from the wings made the jungle plants wave back and forth violently with every flap. The creature flew over the trees and disappeared. As they were scratching their heads trying to figure out what the huge creature could have been, it flew back right over the clearing they were in, only a hundred feet from them. It glided, without flapping its wings. Hodginson describes the creature as having a long beak and a head crest, like the pterosaur once depicted in the comic strip "Alley Oop." He says that it also had a long tail and its wing span was about 29 feet. (The wing span of the California Condor, one of the largest living birds, is less than 10 feet.)

When Hodgkinson tried to share information about what he had seen he was ridiculed so he kept it to himself, until the early 1990s when he shared it with a Young-Earth Creationist who passed the information on to Dr. Carl Baugh. Dr. Baugh made three investigative trips in the early and mid 90s to PNG and confirmed the report. Since then, Paul Nation (a friend of Garth Guess-man) was selected by Dr. Baugh to continue the research in PNG.

Recently, David Woetzel and Garth went to PNG and learned first hand of the difficulties in trying to make video recordings of the flying creature. Garth says that the creature is extremely elusive and is active only at night. Presently there are seven men on the PNG research team.

Acambaro, Mexico, Dinosaur Figurines

In addition to their research in Cambodia, Dr. Donald Swift and Dr. Donald Patton have discovered figurines made in Acambaro, Mexico, hundreds of years ago that resembled dinosaurs.
